What is a vintage jacket with elbow patches on the elbows called?
My grandpa used to have a tan suit jacket, except it had leather-looking patches on the elbows. He sold it, and now I'm looking for one online because I thought it was cool. But I can't remember what it was called. I thought that it was called a smoking jacket, but when I searched online, the only results for that I got were silk robe-like things.
Anyone know what this jacket is actually called?
My brother had one. It was called a shooting jacket (because hunters wore them in the bush and the patches protected the elbows from catching on the trees).
Some (used for skeet shooting and partridge hunting) had patches on the elbow and front of the shoulders to protect against the gun stock (wearing out the cloth).
Google "shooting jacket" and lots of styles will come up.
