Braces? A few Questions?
I know there are MANY topics on this guys, but I would appreciate some personalized answers... 
I am getting braces in 6 days. All of my friends have already had theirs, and have them off, so I am kind of a late bloomer dental wise. Here are my questions:
1) Do any of you know about braces that do not require colored bands to hold the archwire to the bracket? When I went in to my ortho, she told me colored bands for the brackets were no longer necessary. This kind of upset me, seeing as I kind of want color!
2) After I get my braces, how long will it take for me to begin to feel pain/discomfort? Should I take pain medication before or after the procedure?
3) How long will it take until I can eat normally again? I know I will be sore for the first 2 or 3 days. But how many days will it tkae before I can eat regular things, like sandwiches?
4) I know I should avoid the colors of white and clear. If I can get colors, are there any others I should NOT get?

I was a late bloomer getting my braces, too. (junior in high school) It is not uncommon for adults to have braces. It is definetely worth it in the end. The colored bands aren't necessary but it should be an option. Don't be afraid to ask your ortho questions. Tell him/her that you want them.
I would take some ibuprofen before i went, just to be on the safe side. It just depends on how much they do at first as to how long it will take you to be sore. But it's nothing you can't handle.
it will take a while to be able to eat normal food again. You will just be a little uncomfortable for a few days. And always carry a toothbrush with you, because normal food will now stick in your braces. I would recommend you getting dental wax also. This will help when you get sores such as mouth ulcers rubbed on your cheeks. You just place the wax around the bracket that is causing a problem and pretty soon it will go away.
You should avoid white and clear because they are easily stained. I would also avoid light yellow and black, they could make your mouth look dirty.
Good Luck, it will be worth it in the end. I promise. Just do as your ortho says and take good care of your teeth. Keep em clean.
